In 2006, Dr. Shyam Mohapatra initiated major research grants to develop siRNA-based prophylactics for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). He secured a VA Merit Review award (April 2005–March 2009) to study RNA-interference strategies targeting the virus’s NS1 and NS2 genes, laying the groundwork for later RNA-based therapies against respiratory infections.
