About the Breslin Lab

Our Mission

We aim to discover novel molecular mechanisms that could serve as potential therapeutic targets to prevent or resolve edema associated with traumatic injury, metabolic diseases, or lymphatic diseases.

Our work focuses on edema (the swelling of tissues during inflammation) that occurs either acutely after traumatic injury or chronically with long-term diseases. In particular, we are interested in the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control 1) the leakage of plasma proteins and fluids from microvessels into the surround tissues, and 2) the removal of excess interstitial fluids in tissues by lymphatic vessels. We study the mechanisms that promote healthy microvascular barrier and lymphatic transport functions at the molecular, cellular, tissue, and whole organism level.

We are an academic laboratory that provides research training at multiple career levels. We are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive training environment.
