Introducing Dr. Samantha D. Chaney! What a bitter sweet day. Today Sam graduated from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine's Biomedical Sciences PhD Program. She is the first PhD graduate from the Nelson lab.
Samantha made many accomplishments during her time in the lab. She received numerous awards, including an NIH NINDS Fellowship, and published 3 articles with a few others on the way.
It was awesome to have Nelson lab member's at Samantha's graduation to celebrate the big day.
Dr. Chaney's graduation came after the successful defense of her thesis on March 2nd, 2026, and the full completion of all PhD degree requirements. We are grateful to Dr. Malu Tansey for serving as the External Chair of Samantha's defense, as well as all committee members including Dr. Kevin Nash, Dr. Laura Blair, and Dr. Yao Yao.
Congratulations, Dr. Chaney!!! We are excited about your postdoc at the University of Utah and wish you a successful career investigating migraines and ways to mitigate them.
