Supporting Understanding and Nurturing Children Outcomes through Assessment Skills and Treatment

Suncoast Team

About our Lab

The PCIT SUNCOAST Research and Training Lab currently offers PCIT therapist certification for doctoral students, psychology interns, and fellows within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences.  Our team is passionate about teaching and mentorship and values collaboration and consultation across disciplines to better understand and respond to the needs of children and families. We are especially interested in developing innovative and individualized ways to support families throughout PCIT, including adapting treatment to address unique developmental, behavioral, and family-system needs. Through training, research, and clinical collaboration, we aim to expand the reach and impact of PCIT for the diverse families we serve.

We also have some exciting research projects ongoing that we look forward to disseminating soon. Our ongoing projects highlight the following questions:

  • How can PCIT be tailored to better meet the unique needs of individual children and families? We are particularly interested in children and parents with medical complexities that require additional supports within the therapeutic setting.
  • How does PCIT impact parents, siblings, and the broader family system? We are particularly interested in parent and family well-being during and beyond treatment.
  • What factors help families stay engaged in PCIT through the completion of treatment? We are currently examining this in a scoping review in collaboration with Joy Wang, PhD and her lab at Kansas University (KU).
