Adam Khater graduated with a BA in Chemistry from Grinnell College. He played middle linebacker for Grinnell College Football and was a member of the chess club. Adam's undergraduate research was a synthetic methodology optimizing the functionalization of 6-subtituted tryptamine derivatives, a common carbon backbone found in indole alkaloid natural products, with the aim of lowering prescription costs. After graduating, Adam earned an MS in Medical Sciences at the University of South Florida. During graduate school, he joined Dr. DaZhi Wang's lab group as an intern. After one year, he transitioned to a full-time position to continue preparing him for medical school matriculation in August 2026. Adam works under the mentorship of Dr. Gabriela Diniz, helping research the effects of high-fat diet in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, with a focus on microRNAs. He has co-authored two abstracts on Parkinson's Disease treatments accepted for publication in Movement Disorders Journal and looks to continue clinical research. In his free time, Adam plays chess at his local club, basketball at the YMCA, and volunteers in refugee relief efforts both in Tampa and overseas.
