Bong Sook Jhun, PhD, FAHA, FCVS
Dr. Bong Sook Jhun is an Associate Professor at the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. She earned her Ph.D. from Kyung Hee University College of Medicine in the Republic of Korea. She completed her postdoctoral training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and the University of Rochester. Subsequently, she worked as an instructor at Thomas Jefferson University and as a Research Assistant Professor at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University. Before being recruited for her current position, she was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota.
Her research area is cardiac mitochondrial biology, specifically focusing on mitochondrial fission and fusion, calcium transport, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in cardiac physiology and pathophysiology. Her research has received national recognition through several prizes, invitations to present at regional, national, and international conferences, and grants awarded by NIH/NHLBI, NIH/NIGMS, and the American Heart Association (AHA).
Dr. Jhun is a Fellow of AHA (FAHA) and a Fellow of the Cardiovascular Section (FCVS) of the American Physiological Society (APS). She also serves as a Junior Scientific Program Committee Representative for the APS Cell & Molecular Physiology Section. Additionally, she is an editorial board member and Ad hoc reviewer for various scientific publications, including Frontiers in Physiology, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, and American Journal of Physiology.
