About

The Mindsets in Motion Lab is led by Dr. Heather Agazzi and is part of the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychology, Department of Pediatrics, USF Health. My lab is open to students enrolled at the University of South Florida who are interested in behavioral health interventions, community-based research, and evidence-based practices. Students interested in becoming a research volunteer can fill out this form.

My Mentorship Style

Two women stand next to each other in front of a poster.
I believe it is important to find a mentor-mentee fit! I love mentoring students and believe that I can help develop student research and clinical skills. I take a developmental model wherein I provide training, supervised work, and then release the mentee to have more independence. I am a goal-oriented person who believes in hard work while also having a good time. I like to set collaborative goals for projects and meet regularly with mentees to check in on progress or to provide guidance as needed. I value students who are independent, motivated to work, and have strong communication skills, and I strive to help students meet their academic goals.

What I Look for in Prospective Students

I am passionate about my research, especially creating inclusive interventions for families affected by developmental disabilities, adverse childhood experiences, and low-income and economic marginalization. I want to mentor students who share my interest. Competitive applications have strong communication skills (including writing) and some basic experience with research (e.g., data entry, writing a literature review) while being interested in contributing to research in the Mindsets in Motion Lab.

Mindsets in Motion Lab Values

Our top priority is to create and foster a supportive and inclusive lab environment. We strive to engage in responsible and ethical practices that consider a diversity of skills/abilities, professional backgrounds, personal beliefs, and experiences. We know knowledge is power, and we aim to use the scientific method to deliver and adapt behavioral health interventions to improve the lives of children and their families.
