We are the Clinical Research Team at USF's Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetics and Metabolism.  Our team conducts innovative studies on genetic and metabolic disorders, collaborating with families and pharmaceutical companies to enhance patient outcomes.

Featured Research Areas

Our study is led by Dr. Amarilis Sanchez-Valle, a physician specializing in genetic and metabolic disorders. She serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) and brings extensive expertise in inborn errors of metabolism, including Phenylketonuria (PKU), Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders, and Urea Cycle Disorders. Supporting her are Dr. Houriya Ayoubieh, MD, and Kara Morgan, Nurse Practitioner, who serve as Sub-Investigators, along with a dedicated team of dietitians and research coordinators.

Together, our team is committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of complex metabolic conditions—offering patients and families hope through research and innovation.

Research Team

The research team is composed of three dedicated clinical research coordinators who play a vital role in facilitating studies, managing patient recruitment, and ensuring adherence to protocols. This collaborative team is committed to advancing research and improving treatment outcomes for patients with rare metabolic and genetic disorders, including Phenylketonuria, Fabry, Pompe, Gaucher diseases, and Rett Syndrome.
