The NeuBaC Lab and USF were recently featured by WFLA News Channel 8 for its research developing an AI-powered knee sleeve designed to help prevent ACL injuries. The technology combines wearable sensors, biomechanics, and artificial intelligence to identify movement patterns associated with elevated injury risk and provide real-time feedback to the user.
Led by Dr. Nathan Schilaty (DC, PhD) and collaborators at USF, the project utilizes an AI algorithm developed through years of biomechanics research. During testing, the system demonstrated the ability to identify conditions immediately preceding an ACL rupture with approximately 90% accuracy, offering the potential to intervene before an injury occurs. The research team is developing a wearable knee sleeve capable of alerting users through vibration feedback when high-risk movement patterns are detected. Beyond athletics, the technology may have future applications for individuals at risk of ACL injury in everyday activities. Researchers are currently pursuing additional funding and clinical testing as they work toward real-world implementation and commercialization.
We are grateful to WFLA News Channel 8 for highlighting our efforts to advance injury prevention through innovative biomechanics and wearable technology research!
