Translating Regenerative Science into Emergency Care
The PREMER Lab is an emergency medicine research laboratory at the USF Morsani College of Medicine focused on developing and translating regenerative and biologically targeted therapies for acute critical illness. Our work bridges laboratory investigation and clinical research, with an emphasis on sepsis, endothelial and cardiovascular dysfunction, and early intervention in the emergency department.
Our Approach
Early Intervention in Critical Illness
Critical illness evolves rapidly, yet many investigational therapies are introduced only after substantial organ dysfunction has already occurred. The PREMER Lab focuses on the emergency department as a unique opportunity for earlier intervention, when biologically targeted therapies may have the greatest potential to alter disease progression.
- Understand early mechanisms of injury by studying endothelial dysfunction, cardiovascular stress, inflammation, and pathways leading to organ failure.
- Develop and evaluate regenerative therapies with a particular focus on mesenchymal stem cells and other biologically targeted approaches for acute critical illness.
- Translate therapies to the bedside by designing practical emergency department–based studies that prioritize early treatment, feasibility, and clinical implementation.
