Dr. Besharat Hussian
Dr. Basharat Hussain recently joined Dr. Yao’s lab, Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida, Tampa, USA, as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar. Dr. Hussain has completed his Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology and Master’s degree in Biotechnology from GC University, Faisalabad, Pakistan, where he explored “Molecular Portraits of Hearing Impairments” among the Pakistani population.
Owing to a keen interest in understanding the molecular mechanisms of human disease, Hussain joined the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), Beijing, China, where he completed his PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2018-2022. During his PhD research, Hussain reported that the mouse brain endothelial cell Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway is indispensable for the maintenance of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity in adult mice.
Dr. Hussain then joined the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, China, as a Postdoctoral researcher (2022-2024), where he has contributed to research projects related to neurological diseases using different mouse models.
Dr. Hussain then moved to United State, and joined Dr. Yao’s lab in May, 2025, where he is contributing to various research projects including (i) observing the effect of microglia laminin a5 deletion on BBB permeability following permanent distal middle artery occlusion (Pd-MCAO) using CX3CR1-Cre mouse model, (ii) elucidation of the role of EC Integrin b1 in adult mouse brain vasculature associated to BBB integrity under physiological condition using ITGb1F/F Cdh5-Cre mouse model, (iii) dissection of the role of oligodendrocyte Integrin b4 in adult mouse brain vasculature associated to BBB integrity under pathological condition (ICH). These research projects may have broad applications in understanding and treatment of CNS disorders involving BBB disruption
