• Current M.S. Student in Aging and Neuroscience (University of South Florida)

Hanan is an M.S. student in Medical Sciences, with a concentration in Aging and Neuroscience at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude from Allegheny College in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and double minors in Arabic and Biology. Hanan holds an interest in healthcare and plans to attend medical school.

Hanan’s research began with examining how cognitive appraisal processes mediate the relationship between acute post-injury pain and 90-day disability among injured Emergency Department patients. This work fostered an interest in how the nervous system influences real-world behavior, as well as how scientific and clinical approaches may be integrated to support translational research. This led Hanan to her undergraduate comprehensive project using EEG to investigate targeted memory reactivation (TMR) during a short nap as a potential therapeutic tool to enhance cognitive performance and motor skills in young adults. This work was intended to establish a foundation for translation to aging and neurodegenerative populations. She now focuses on spine-related research, examining the therapeutic effects of non-surgical spinal decompression (NSSD).

Outside of research, Hanan enjoys bringing her experimental approach to the kitchen through baking! In her free time, she also enjoys spending time with her family and doing outdoor activities like running.
